Licensing Steps
Once you have your PSU certification and Tutoring Association Memberships, with any specialty add credentials you've chosen, your City or State Licensing will depend on your local regs. If you are a Pastoral Counselor or Tutor, we suggest that you establish your practice as a Finance consultant, Job Counselor, Business Tutor, etc. to avoid Psych-Establishment sponsored regs in some States (California, New York, for example).
Most Cities do not require business licenses for home based tutoring. If you tutor young children, in some States it cannot be for the entire day, or you will fall under day care or home school regs. Once you build up your practice, (and finances!) in any of these areas, you can always seek additional licensure later. If you do want your home license, you will need your PSU cert, Association Membership (Membership is included with your PSU certification), and sometimes an EIN or State Tax ID (needed in some Cities even though there is no tax on services in the U.S., both are free).
